Visiting the Palace Playland

Maine offers plenty of fun and historical attractions to visitors, including a visit to Palace Playland, Maine’s only beachfront amusement park. The park features more than 25 rides and attractions, and something about the park that is different from most others is that admission is completely free. It does cost to go on each of the rides, but you only have to pay for the ones you choose. There are a variety of different options from which to choose, including full day passes.

The amusement park is spread out over four acres, and besides the rides also includes a 24,000 square foot arcade, which happens to be one of the largest in New England. It contains more than 200 games, including Skeeball and videogames. Aside from the arcade games, there are also plenty of great midway games to test your skill, similar to the ones found in the traveling fairs and carnivals of yesteryear.

While the games are a fun diversion, most people come to the park for all of the wonderful rides it has to offer. There are both adrenaline inducing thrill rides and rides paced much slower for the younger crowd. The park recently added three new rides, Wave Swinger, Crop Duster, and Fiesta Loca. Some of their classic rides that are popular throughout New England are the Adrenalin, Drop Zone, Moby Dick, and Cascade Falls. You don’t want to miss out on any of these.

If roller coasters are more your style, Palace Playland has two for you. The Orient Express is a family friendly coaster, one that everyone can enjoy without getting too dizzy. The second roller coaster, The Galaxi Coaster, is full of sharp turns, corkscrews, and steep hills and is particularly suite to those who are looking for a thrill. Don’t forget to take a ride on the Sun Wheel, a 70-ft Ferris Wheel. The view of the park from atop the Sun Wheel looks especially magical after sunset.

Some of the rides for tots include a carousel, Big Rig Convoy, Bear Affair, and a teacup ride. Of course, there are many more to keep the little ones happy.

On Thursday nights, as well as on the Fourth of July, Palace Playland hosts an impressive fireworks show. The amusement park is open from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.

The park offers a great time for people of all ages, both locals and tourists alike.
